I am helping my son do a science project. Does anyone know a good website that offers free on-line books and magazines on comets and meteors?

Have you tried the library?
You might want to try the IMO at: http://www.imo.net/calendar. This is an organization that routinely monitors the meteor activity around the earth routinely. Also, NASA’s site has some great information on upcoming meteorological events at: http://science.nasa.gov/headli.....iddawn.htm.
Insofar as more detailed information is concerned, go to the online Wikipedia for more in-depth information on what meteors are and how they travel in relation to the earth
How old is your son? There are lots of age related sites out there.
