How do you deal with a bully for a boss?
I am a teacher and I respect my elders, but when a principal decides on a curriculum that I opposed and then blames me for the bad results, what am I to do? The English Department voted "NO" on the new English books, because they weren’t any good. The principal overruled our decision and gave the new program a "YES". He did this because the new books had many other benefits, like free headphones and magazines and cassettes. Now the parents start complaining and he wants us to apologize. When we started speaking, he went all over our heads and made us look bad. When in the first place it was his bad decision! What does one do now?

Sounds like a real pecker head… You need to team up…all of you approach this guy and lay it on the line… If you have the option of transferring to a different school…good gawd DO IT !!
Life is too good to waste precious energy and young minds on dumbshits like this !!
if the whole if the English department signed a letter to the board of governors, would that help?
You deal with a bully by presenting your case with solid facts. DO NOT BACK DOWN. Say what you mean and speak from the heart. Remember your end goal is the well being of the children you teach. THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. Do not let anyone stand in your way of providing what is best for you and your students. Never give in to anyone elses way of thinking when it is opposed to your point of view….EVER.
Even your boss has someone he has to answer to. Report him. Or change jobs. And one more thing:: DO NOT APOLOGIZE. Sounds like HE is the one that’s in the wrong. Do NOT let him get away with it at all. Don’t sit back and do nothing or he will continue with his bad attitude. Stand up for youself and do NOT back down. You deserve the best no matter what.
